(AGI) Rome, Sept 24 - Gabriele Muccino has returned toHollywood with his most intimate and personal film, "Padri efiglie" ("Fathers and Daughters"), which stars movie icons suchas Russell Crowe, Jane Fonda, Amanda Seyfried, andOscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer. The film, produced byCrowe, will premiere in Italy on October 1 and be distributedby 01 Distribution. "It is my most complete movie, because ithas a sophisticated but linear composition," Muccino toldreporters at a press conference in Rome on Thursday. "A moviethat tells many stories without giving the impression of doingso. There are five or six plots to follow," Muccino explained."The main ones are about the love between father and daughter,an artist who falls into a crisis after receiving negativereviews [Russel Crowe's line "Why did God create cockroachesand critics?" was written by screenwriter Brad Desch, Muccinoassured - Ed.], an orphan girl who establishes a loving bondwith her caseworker, and a legal custody battle between achild's relatives and the natural father." "Fathers andDaughters" recounts the struggle of a Pulitzer Prize winner(Russel Crowe) who wishes to stay close to his 8-year-olddaughter (Kylie Rogers) after his wife dies in a car accident. The woman's sister (Diane Kruger), married to a millionairelawyer (Aaron Paul) who boasts being "richer than God",considers her brother-in-law responsible for her sister's deathand wants custody over her niece. She exploits his medicalcondition to commence with a legal battle, as the man stillsuffers from epileptic-type fits despite spending seven monthsin a psychiatric hospital. In the meantime, he publishes a newbook, but it is destroyed by critics. The dramatic storybetween father and daughter is revealed as a long flashback, and 25 years later she is now a grown woman (Amanda Seyfried)with a degree in psychology and a job as a caseworker, butincapable of love. "The father leaves a hole in her life thatcannot be filled, and she begins an inner journey in an effortto fill this emptiness," Muccino said. "She is afraid to lovebecause she knows it can also mean abandonment, deceit, mourning, separation, and conflict. All because hersubconscious has been programmed that way by her experiencewith her father. What we go through till the age of six orseven goes on to influence our subconscious and guide us asadults. She will try to overcome what her subconsciouscommands, which is not to love.". .
