(AGI) Madrid, Oct 2 - Madrid celebrates the 500th anniversaryof the first version of the poem "Orlando Furioso" by Italianpoet Ludovico Ariosto. An exhibition of prints of the famouswork belonging to the Spanish National Library opens onTuesday. It includes several editions of text by Ariosto(1474-1533) as well as drawings and engravings, plus the firstsketches of frescoes in the old Royal Alcazar of Madrid bySebastian Munoz. There will also be performances of the opera"Alcina" by Georg Friedrich Handel at the Teatro Real from Oct.27 to Nov. 8. The show "Orlando furiosamente solo rotolando"will be staged at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid onThursday. The text, narrated by Enrico Messina, is based on theplay "Hruodlandus. Libera Rotolata Medioevale" by Mr Messinaand Alberto Nicolino. The only person on stage is Mr Messina,who uses just a trumpet and a stool to tell the story of thepaladins of Charlemagne and the Saracens. The performancecombines the richness and colours of the images, therediscovery of the pleasure of storytelling and the fascinationof listening together. .
