(AGI) Milan, June 6 - The Jesus Christ Superstar show had atriumphal debut in the Milan premiere of its tour throughItaly. The show, the "most popular musical of all times",returned to its origin with American actor Ted Neeley, whoplayed in the role of Jesus 42 years ago in the memorablecinematographic success of 1973. The musical, written by AndrewLloyd Webber and Tim Rice, started running at Milan's TeatroNuovo on Friday and was greeted with a standing ovation by morethan 1,000 spectators, split into at least three generations.Neeley took the loudest applause. His very long career beganwith the musical "Hair" and then continued with "Jesus Christ",first in the chorus and then stably as Jesus and as "Tommy" inthe rock opera by the Who, when he met Oscar Norman Jewison whoconvinced him to play in the cinematographic version of "JesusChrist Superstar". The current show, which is directed byMassimo Romeo Piparo, features nine main characters, and atotal of 24 between acrobats, stilt-walkers, fire-eaters and a12-element live orchestra conducted by Emanuele Friello. Itwill play in Milan until June 28 and then perform 120 repeatperformances in 16 Italian cities, with 250,000 spectatorsexpected in the two events scheduled at the Verona Arena. Theshow will then move on to The Netherlands, Spain, Germany,Belgium, Estonia. The impressive stage production is by PeepArrow Entertainment. On stage, together with Neeley, there willbe Simona Distefano (Mary Magdalene), Feysal Bonciani (Judas),Paride Acacia (Hannas), Emiliano Geppetti (Pontius Pilate),Claudio Compagno (Simon), Francesco Mastroianni (Caiaphas),Francesco Italiani (Peter) and Salvador Axel Torrisi (Herod).. .
