'From Afar' by Lorenzo Vigas wins Golden Lion at Venice

(AGI) Venice, Sept 12 - "From Afar", Venezuelan directorLorenzo Vigas's first film, won the Golden Lion at the 72ndedition of Venice Film Festival. The four Italian films in thecompetition were left empty-handed. The only one to be awardeda prize was Giuseppe M. Gaudino's "Per amor vostro" ("For YourLove"). However it received an important prize, with ValeriaGolino winning the Volpi Cup for best actress. "It is a joycomparable to what I felt almost 30 years ago, when I won myfirst Volpi Cup (Ed. for "Storia d'amore", "Tale of Love", byFrancesco Masell in 1986)," said a thrilled Vaeria Golino afterthanking the director, producers - including her life-partnerRiccardo Scamarcio - and other colleagues. She went on: "TodayI realise that after all the experience accumulated over theseyears, the award gives me the same childish and naive joy thatit gave me then." The other prizes awarded were the Volpi Cupfor best actor to Fabrice Luchini for the French film"L'hermine", the Silver Lion for best director to Pablo Traperofor the film "El Clan". Mr Trapero said: "I dedicate this prizeto my son Matteo, my partner and the baby she is expecting,which makes us immensely happy. Thank you and hurray forcinema." The Grand Prize of the Jury was conferred to"Anomalisa", an original animation film in stop-motion byCharlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson. The Marcello Mastroianniprize for best emerging actor was awarded to Abraham Attah forthe film "Beasts of no Nation", while the prize for the bestscreenplay went to Christian Vincent for "L'hermine"("Courted"). . .
