(VELINO) Roma, 26 May - The world fame of novelist Elena Ferrante's works has exceed the boundaries of the literary community to become the subject of successful films and theatre plays. They include films such as L'amore molesto (Troubling Love, 1995), directed by Mario Martone, I giorni dell'abbandono (The Days of Abandonment, 2005) directed by Roberto Faenza and this year the adaptation of My Brilliant Friend by April De Angelis, directed by Melly Still. Monica Capuani will lead a discussion on Elena Ferrante as an artist caught between literature and theatre with Ann Goldstein, Melly Still and Monica Dolan. Ann Goldstein lives in New York and is an editor at The New Yorker. She is the translator of a wide variety of Italian authors, including Leopardi, Pasolini, Ferrante, Piperno, Levi, and Baricco. She began translating for pleasure, became a benchmark in the profession and an important interlocutor for anyone involved in the field of literary translation. Melly Still is a director, set designer and choreographer. She has worked as set designer and co-director on many productions, including the RSC's version of Tales from Ovid and Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie at the Royal National Theatre. She recently directed the play adapted from My Brilliant Friend at the Rose Theatre Kingston. Monica Dolan studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her stage appearances include King Lear and The Seagull with Ian McKellen. She won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Rosemary West in Appropriate Adult (2011). She was Lena in Timberlake Wertenbaker's dramatization of Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend on BBC Radio 4. Monica Capuani is a freelance cultural journalist for important Italian magazines such as L'Espresso, L'Europeo, io Donna, Elle. As a literary translator from English and French, she translated more than 70 novels. She has also translated English and American drama, bringing several plays to the Italian stage. Her most recent is The Pride by Alexi Kaye Campbell, directed and interpreted by Luca Zingaretti. vel
