(AGI) Montreal, May 12 - World renowned Italian chef Massimo Bottura is to open the "Theatre of Life" event in Montreal. He will also discuss his mission, which is to feed the poor and cut down massive global food waste. The event is being held at the Phi Centre from 25 to 29 May, and includes a series of events on food waste, such as a photographic exhibition, a conference and gastronomic dinners. Mr Bottura, of Modena's Osteria Francescana, will start by presenting a number of challenges and success stories, the first of which is the creation of the Refettorio Ambrosiano, a refectory in the deprived Greco district in the Milan suburbs, which uses surplus food destined to be thrown away to feed homeless political refugees, workers and immigrants who frequent it. Chefs Jeremy Charles, Antonio Park and John Winter Russell, along with Jean-Francois Archambault, founder of Le Table des Chefs, will also take part in the conference, moderated by Mitchell Davis. The event is being organised by the Phi Center in partnership with the Italian Institute of Culture in Montreal. (AGI).
