(VELINO) Roma, 11 Jul - "Freedom and security. How should organised crime be dealt with in Europe?" is the title of a conference organised by the Italian embassy in Berlin, together with the Mafia? Nein, Danke! e.V association and the European German Movement, which will be held on 12 July. Ten years ago, the murders in Duisburg drew public attention to the presence and roots of organised crime in Germany. For a long time now, mafia organisations have been invisibly operating throughout Europe, which, considering the many other, often more evident, forms of criminality, raises many questions: Are there connections between organised crime and terrorism? What tools can Germany, Italy and Europe use to prevent and combat these threats in a globalised world? Are national governments able to deal with these dangers on their own? Where is European and international cooperation needed? And what future challenges have already been clearly identified? All these aspects will be discussed during the event. German interior minister, Thomas de Maizie're, and his Italian counterpart, Marco Minniti, have confirmed their attendance, along with some of the leading experts on combating organised crime from both countries. The conference will be held in Italian and German and all the speeches will be interpreted simultaneously. vel
