(VELINO) Roma, 2 Aug - The Laser Valley-Land of Lights International Ideas Competition has officially opened in Romania. Organised by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Scientific Research in partnership with the "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism and the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, and with the support of the Italian Embassy in Bucharest, the competition aims to present the urban development prospects for 2035 of the town of Magurele: "a dynamic and open research ecosystem, developed within a prime-quality environment, both interesting and efficient". The Laser Valley-Land of Lights competition is addressed to students, graduates, and young researchers from Romania and abroad, without age restrictions. The jury will be composed of top-level Romanian and foreign professionals. Participants must register and send in their projects between September 1 and 5, 2016. The top three participants will be awarded 6,000, 4,500, and 3,500 euros respectively. The competition's sponsors will also award three prizes worth 2,000 euros each. The jury will be composed by: Gulsun Saglamer, professor of Architecture at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Board member of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) and President of the Community of Mediterranean Universities (CMU); Leen van Duin, professor of Architectural Design at the Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Architecture; Dan Hanganu, professor at the University of Montreal and McGill University and honorary member of the Romanian Academy; James Horan, professor emeritus and Ireland's representative on the EU Commission's Advisory Body on the Education and Training of Architects; Emil Barbu Popescu, professor and President of the "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest; and Constantin Spiridonidis, professor at the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. vel
