(VELINO) Roma, 22 Jun - Experts from the Italian Cooperation agency presented their plans in La Paz for the creation of a Centre for the Conservation of Cultural Assets and Heritage. The presentation was attended by over 50 experts and notable scholars from the various sectors involved in the conservation and restoration of Bolivia's cultural heritage. A lengthy technical and scientific analysis, carried out for over a year by Italian Cooperation experts in Bolivia as part of an initiative to bolster its Ministry of Culture and Tourism, resulted in the definition of the first project to establish such an institute, considered vital to conserve Bolivia's cultural assets. The feasibility project details the structural and technical-administrative organisation of the "Centro Plurinacional de Preservacio'n del Patrimonio Cultural Boliviano", and will now be evaluated by the Bolivian government. The Centre was conceived as a solution to the current difficulties in preserving Bolivia's rich Material and Immaterial Heritage, relating to the identity of its indigenous peoples, the Afro-Bolivian communities, and intercultural and Metis communities, and its national and Latin-American identity. The main goal is to achieve the necessary autonomy to ensure the conservation and restoration of Bolivia's cultural assets, instituting a sustainable Bolivian school for heritage conservation and producing enough resources to preserve every cultural asset vulnerable to deterioration, developing appropriate maintenance plans and strengthening a preventative conservation policy. vel
