Milan - Milan is ready for a kermesse dedicated to food, culture and healthy diet. 'Milan Food City', will kick-off on May 4 and run till May 11, featuring over 320 events. The Municipality of Milan, with Confcommercio, Fiera Milano and the Lombardy Region, plus other partners, are determined to invest in the Italian wine and food tradition with the support of diverse partners.
Milan will become a very attractive international display, including a very rich programme of events featuring cooking shows, tastings and initiatives to discover the culture and the taste of a good diet. "Milano Food City stems from our wish to capitalize all that the city has learned and shared from the Expo 2015," said the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala. "With the Milan Charter and the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact, we have taken upon ourselves the responsibility to reduce an unbalanced distribution of food resources. It is a challenge that our city is determined to face up to in its usual concrete and passionate fashion. This is why we thought of developing a rich programme of events for our citizens and visitors alike, celebrating food in all of its forms, and engaging in a debate on the right to food. 'Milan Food City' will open on May 3, from 7.30 to 11 pm, with a charitable event designed to collect food products for people in need."
The event will help raise awareness on the issue of hunger, drawing inspiration form the values of solidarity and charity. A great party, with music playing, entertainment and famous DJs will be the backdrop of a gesture of solidarity: companies sponsoring the event will donate food products to be delivered to Banco Alimentare, Caritas and Pane Quotidiano that will see to their distribution. The donation procedure will be based on collective participation and will be implemented by using a system of scales. The slogan to be launched is ALL FOR FOOD #piusiamoepiudoniamo. Voluntary workers will invite citizens to weigh themselves as they like -alone, in groups, in pairs- and every weight resulting will be translated into an amount of food to be donated.
