Rome - Fiera Roma is a "strategic internationalisation tool," said CEO Pietro Piccinetti, presenting the calendar of events of the fair to the diplomatic representatives in Italy. "Fiera Roma must stand up to the challenge and fulfill its role as a catalyst of wider economic impacts at the local and national level, by reaching out to foreign markets. From the moment I took office as CEO of Fiera Roma in April, 2016, I set out to include Fiera Roma in a wider internationalisation effort," added Mr Piccinetti, who is also the coordinator of the Internationalisation Commission of the Italian Association of Exhibitions and Fairs- AEFI .
"By definition, fairgrounds are places where the most diverse, and geographically apart, people meet and shake hands to strike deals, of course, but also to get to know each other better and connect different worlds and cultures. The 34 Italian fair districts, hosting 946 events, with 200,000 exhibitors and 22,000,000 visitors, generated a turnover of 60 billion euros in 2016. This accounted for 50 percent of national exports and represented a key-promotional tool for 75 percent of industrial enterprises and 85 percent of the SMEs, as well as the most effective method to communictae the excellence of our country and the 'Made in Italy' products to the world," said Mr Piccinetti.
"Fairs can propel the internationalization of Italian companies. With this in mind, Fiera Roma does not need to duplicate other cities' fairs. All we need to do is to create a "made-to-order" solution which does not only meet the peculiar features of a city such as Rome and its Mediterranean identity, but enhances its extraordinary potential. This is our vision which informs all of the events Fiera Roma organizes and that in the next two years will account for 70 percent of all the events," said Mr. Piccinetti. "This blueprint will be used for the agrifood and sacred fairs and relevant activities, as well as the one devoted totally to health issues. Rome alone in Italy can play on a different field, enabling its Fair to become an economic engine while contributing to consolidating political, institutional and diplomatic relations," added Mr Piccinetti.
