(AGI) Los Angeles, June 26 - Los Angeles will finally have itscinema museum, after the city council on Wednesday approved thedesign of Italian architect Renzo Piano for a temple to film inthe cinema city. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures willcover an area of almost 90,000 square metres and will alsoencompass the historic May Company building, built by Albert C.Martin and completed in 1939. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures willcover an area of almost 90,000 square metres and will alsoencompass the historic May Company building, built by Albert C.Martin and completed in 1939. The complex will host theAcademy's immense collection of archive material, as well asprops, equipment, costumes and designs that make up cinemahistory, as well as a theatre topped by a giant transparentdome with a thousand seats for screening and big events. Thefirst two floors of the building will contain permanentexhibitions that will take visitors on a tour through thehistory of cinema, from the first images to the latestinnovations, while the top floor will host exhibitions,bringing to light a large amount of previously unseen material.The plan also includes a second cinema with 275 seats, builtunderground.
