Italian firms win Trans Adriatic pipeline contracts

(AGI) Rome, Oct 16 - Two Italian firms have won three contractsfor work on the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. Industria MeccanicaBassi of San Rocco al Porto won contracts for 48 and 36 inchT-joints and welded curves and for scraper traps for"intelligent" inspection and cleaning devices. The T-jointsconnect the pipeline to check valves and compressor stationsand the scraper traps allow the pipeline to be cleaned andchecked. Nuova Giungas of Formigine won the tender for thedesign and manufacture of 48 and 36 inch insulating joints,which insulate protection systems against corrosion. TransAdriatic Pipeline Managing Director Ian Bradshaw said: "Ishould like to congratulate Bassi and Nuova Giungas for theexcellent technical quality of their products, for theirexpertise and for their proven results in safety matters. Ishould also like to thank all the other companies who took partin this extremely specific and rigorous series of tenders. Aswe move further forward with our planning, the company willassign several major contracts by the end of this year,including those for the pipes and onshore and offshoreEngineering, Procurement and Construction. This will enable usto start building the pipeline in Greece, Albania and Italy in2016, as predicted." The award of the contracts signals the endof the tenders for companies who meet rigorous critiera, whichbegan in May. The company awarded contracts for building andupgrading roads and bridges in Albania in April, the supply oflarge-diameter spherical valves in July and turbo compressorsin September. (AGI) .
