(AGI) Rome, Oct. 8 - The 2015 Eni Award ceremony was held onOct. 8 at the Quirinale presidential palace in Rome, in thepresence of the President of the Italian Republic, SergioMattarella, the Chairman of the Italian oil and gas giant Eni,Emma Marcegaglia the President of employers' associationConfindustria, and Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi. Over the years,the prize has become an international point of reference forresearch in the field of energy and the environment. The EniAwards aim to encourage a better use of energy sources and tostimulate and support new generations of researchers, showingEni's dedication to scientific research and to sustainabilityissues. The Scientific Committee of the Eni Award is chaired bythe French academic French Gerard Ferey. The committee consistsof 27 members, including Nobel laureate Sir Harold Kroto,university presidents, researchers and scientists of the mostimportant research centres worldwide. The Eni Award waspresented together with the Eni Innovation Awards, which weregiven to three internal research teams for their innovativeapproach and the importance of their results for business. Thewinners were chosen by an external commission composed of fourmembers of the Scientific Commission. Thousands of researchers,including 25 Nobel Prize winners, have competed for theprestigious awards over the years, presenting their research tobe judged by high-profile juries. Over 800 candidatesparticipated in the 2015 edition. .
