Eni and Sonangol strenghen partnership

(AGI) Rome, Nov 4 - The partnership between Italian energycompany Eni and Angola's national oil company Sonangol wasstrengthened at a meeting between Eni CEO, Claudio Descalzi,and Sonangol chairman, Francisco de Lemos Maria. At Wednesday'smeeting in Rome they confirmed they would use gas extracted byEni in Angola to provide energy for the domestic market andsupport the national economy. The companies are to look intodeveloping gas fields in the Angolan basin of the Lower Congo.The gas will be used to generate electricity in the country,potentially of 1.5 GW. (AGI) Rome, Nov 4 - The partnership between Italian energycompany Eni and Angola's national oil company Sonangol wasstrengthened at a meeting between Eni CEO, Claudio Descalzi,and Sonangol chairman, Francisco de Lemos Maria. At Wednesday'smeeting in Rome they confirmed they would use gas extracted byEni in Angola to provide energy for the domestic market andsupport the national economy. The companies are to look intodeveloping gas fields in the Angolan basin of the Lower Congo.The gas will be used to generate electricity in the country,potentially of 1.5 GW. Eni will also support Sonangol indefining the Lobito refinery, which will be developed in thecoming months. Eni's wealth of experience and technicalexpertise in the discovery, development and production of gasresources will be brought into play along with Sonangol'soversight of the gas value chain and Angolan oil products. Eniwill also provide support for the outline of an agriculturalproject to boost employment and help diversify the country'seconomy. Mr Descalzi said: "This agreement confirms Eni'sstrategy in Sub-Saharan Africa. We are accelerating organicgrowth in upstream and supporting local communities throughprojects that provide access to energy, develop downstreamfacilities and produce economic diversification." Eni hasoperated in Angola since 1980 with a net production of about105,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day. It has a 35 percentstake in the deep waters of block 15/06, where it beganproduction of the West Hub Development Project on Nov. 30, lastyear, four years after announcing its commercial discovery. Theblock includes the East Hub Development Project, which willstart production in 2017.. .
