(AGI) Bologna, Dec 3 - Barilla, the biggest pasta producer inthe world, has an entirely Emilia Romagna based supply chain. Anew framework agreement was signed on Wednesday in Bologna forcereals production in 2014-2015. This will provide Barilla with120,000 tons of high quality wheat to feed its mill in Parma,the largest in Europe. The agricultural area involved coversabout 20,000 hectares, 30 percent more than in previous years.The agreement, promoted by the Emilia Romagna Department ofAgriculture, only involves the Barilla Group, the seedproducers in Bologna, and producer organisations Op Cereali, OpGrandi Colture

The2014-15 agreement, informs the region, includes an increase inthe guaranteed price to 270 euros per tonne plus the proteinpremium (protein and gluten content is essential for thequality of pasta). All producers will also have access to adedicated computer system (granoduro.net), which supports themtechnically to produce a high quality product, also fullysustainable from an environmental point of view. The frameworkagreement is divided into individual agreements signed by theBarilla Group and suppliers. In turn, the latter (Op Cereali,Op Grandi Colture iIaliane, Capa Ferrara Op and CerealCap)conclude cultivation commitments with individual farmingmembers, with the technical specifications and the options fordeveloping durum wheat. The seed producers' company, which isthe sorter and breeder of the main varieties identified by theregulations, provides the seed necessary for most crops. (AGI). .
