(AGI) Rho, Oct 9 - Central African Republic day at Milan Expo2015 was opened by general commissioner Jenine Dekoyo. Shesaid: "Our goal is to raise international awareness and helpvictims of violence and my country. " It was a straightforwardrequest to respect the victims of the violence which is stilldevastating the country. She also brought greetings from thetemporary president, Catherine Samba-Panza, and governmentmembers who could not attend "due to the disgraceful eventswhich occurred in the country, causing difficulties in travelabroad". She thanked Italy "for its participation in theEurofor mission which aims to protect civilians in the countryand helps distribute humanitarian aid with the U.N. Mission,Minusca". Nevertheless she went on: " My country wanted toparticipate in Expo and make its small contribution." She saidthe country has huge potential in trade and services,especially agriculture, forestry and mining. "In my countrythere are 15 million hectares of useable land, butunfortunately only 7 percent has been used. Before the 2013crisis agriculture employed 70 percent of the activepopulation, accounting for 50.2 percent of the GDP. Thegovernment wishes to boost this sector. Forestry represents 10percent pf the GDP. The mining sector is exploited by 95percent in a non-industrial way, and the country has not yetexploited it." She said changes had been ruled out by thecrisis that began in 2013. "Financial insecurity has been hardfor the population that has been striving to assure foodsupplies. Today, over one million people, out of five million,struggle to buy food every day," she said. The crisis "hascaused the loss of 60 percent of agricultural productioncapacity, 77 percent of animal husbandry and 44 percent offishery." They were appealing to the international communityfor financial support to help stabilise the country and reach alasting peace. She thanked the U.N. Food and AgricultureOrganaisation for its work in Central Africa where "140,000families received seeds and agriculture tools".. .
