(AGI) Washington, Sept 23 - The U.S. launched the announced airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIS) forces in Syria overnight onMonday, the day before President Barack Obama was due toaddress the United Nations' General Assembly. The U.S.-ledoperation also involved several Arab countries in the region,Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain andQatar, although the role played by the individual U.S. alliesis not clear.
