(AGI) Vatican City, Nov 11 - In the face of continuing climatechange, "the time to find global solutions is running out",said Pope Francis in his characteristically strong and directmessage to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties tothe UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Lima."The consequences of environmental changes, which are alreadyfelt dramatically in many countries, especially in the Pacificislands, remind us of the seriousness of neglect and inaction",he continued. The Pontiff also said he hoped their decisionsbear abundant fruit. "We can only find solutions if we acttogether and agree," said the Pope speaking about "a clear, definitive and urgent ethical imperative to act. An effectivefight against global warming will be possible only through aresponse of collective responsibility that goes beyondinterests and particular behaviours and develops free frompolitical and economic pressures." A collective response, headded, is also one that is able to overcome mistrust and topromote a culture of solidarity, encounter and dialogue"capable of highlighting the responsibility to protect theplanet and the human family". "I deeply hope - concluded thePontiff - that the Lima Conference, like subsequent meetings, which will be decisive for the climate talks, puts in place adialogue imbued with this culture and the values that feed it:justice, respect and fairness."
