(AGI) Moscow, March 11 - A former Chechen police officer whoadmitted to taking part in the murder of Russian oppositionactivist Boris Nemtsov likely confessed under torture, a memberof the Kremlin's human rights council said on Wednesday. Thesuspect said he eventually admitted to the killing to securethe release of an ex-colleague, Rustam Yusupov, who wasdetained alongside him on Saturday. The human rights council'sAndrei Babushkin has visited three suspects in prison: ZaurDadayev and his cousins Anzor and Shagid Gubashev. Dadayev hasbeen officially charged with the murder. The other two wereonly detained as suspects, but have allegedly also beentortured. "They said that if I confessed they would letRustan go. I agreed. I thought I would save him and they wouldbring me to Moscow alive," Dadayev was quoted as saying byBabushkin. However, nothing has been heard from Yusupov sincethe confession, the human rights activist underlined,specifying that the Russian intelligence service, FSB, has beenasked to explain his disappearance. During his meeting withDadayev, during which he was joined by journalist EvaMerkacheva of the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets, Babushkinnoted that Dadayev had "multiple injuries" visible on his body.He also described abrasions on Anzor Gubashev's nose, wristsand legs. Both men answered "yes" when asked if they hadsustained their injuries in prison. Shagid said he had beenbeaten as well by two policemen, who called each other"Mikhailovich" and "Petrovich".. .
