(AGI) Milan, June 17 - Michelle Obama arrived in Milan onWednesday, taking part in a cookery demonstration at the luxuryJames Beard American Restaurant along with 20 students aged10-to-12-years-old from the American School of Milan. She tookup the central position at an improvised kitchen bench andinstructed the students, who were encouraged to taste the foodas it was cooking. The ingredients for Mrs Obama's cold saladincluded green lentils, barley and black quinoa and barley,seasoned with tomatoes, nuts, red onion and raisins,accompanied by chicken thighs with parsley and thyme. Mrs Obamaserved the food, garnished with shaved parmesan and a dressingof oil and balsamic vinegar, before sitting down and eatingwith the students. The five tables in the room held nothing butjugs of water and apples. She emphasised the value of healthyeating to avoid obesity, a challenge that the U.S. was nottackling alone, although progress was beginning to be made. Sheurged the children to do their bit by eating vegetables andbeing aware of what they were eating, stressing that the morethey cooked, the more knowledgeable they would become. She wasaccompanied by chef John Besh, in Milan for Expo 2015, and adelegation that included Ambassador John Phillips and GeneralCommissioner of the U.S. pavilion Douglas Hickey. The FirstLady is travelling with her daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama,who did not attend the demonstration. (AGI).
