(AGI) Baghdad, Oct 11 - The fate of ISIS chief Abu BakrAl-Baghdadi, who was targeted by Iraqi forces in an airstrikeon Sunday, is unclear. The "caliph" was said not to be amongthe victims of the air strike on the convoy of jihadists, whichincluded several leaders of the terrorist group, said hospitalsources and residents of the Iraqi city of Karbala. The Iraqiair force claimed to have hit the convoy when it transportedthe ISIS leader to a meeting with other jihadist chiefsalthough official sources admitted that the fate of Al-Baghdadiwas unclear. The air strike was conducted in the western AlAnbar Governorate, not far from the Syrian border. Last Sept.30 the pan-Arab daily Asharq al Awasat reported thatAl-Baghdadi had moved his headquarters from Mosul, in northernIraq, to the city of Ramadi, the capital of the Al AnbarGovernorate, which has a Sunni majority. Iraqi security forcessaid that by moving his headquarters the self-proclaimed"caliph" intends to exercise a direct control over theterrorist operations. Al-Baghdadi returned to Mosul at thebeginning of September, after spending several months in thecity of Al Raqqah, the ISIS's principal stronghold in Syria.Al-Baghdadi was previously reported dead by Arab andinternational media in April, supposedly in an attack conductedin western Iraq last March 18.
