Children's virus spreads in U. S. Midwest and South
(AGI) Washington, Sept 9 - A rare respiratory virus thataffects children but not adults has spread through a dozen U.S.States. In many cases, it was identified as the enterovirusEV-D68. According to U.S. health authorities, the virus iscurrently affecting the Midwestern and Southern states ofColorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri,North Carolina, Ohio and Oklahoma, although the situation israpidly evolving. Hundreds of children have been hospitalisedsince mid-August. The virus causes symptoms similar to those ofa summer cold or asthma (dripping nose, fever, cough, breathingdifficulty) which can quickly worsen without adequate treatment
