(AGI) London, Sept. 30 - A man whose body was found in Regent'sCanal in London has been identified as 46-year-old Italiannational Sebastiano Magnanini from Venice. The ConsulateGeneral of Italy in London is providing assistance to hisfamily. Investigators said the body was tied to a shopping cartbefore it was thrown into the canal. The body was spotted by apasserby close to the entrance of Islington Tunnel on Thursday,but it was identified nearly a week later. The remains ofMagnanini were taken to Whittington hospital in Archway, in thenorth section of the capital, but the cause of death is stillunclear. Further tests were being undertaken after an initialpostmortem on Friday. Detectives had earlier issued a plea forinformation among residents living in the many boats along thecanal. The investigation was focused on several tattoos on theman's body. Magnanini was born in Venice, in the Cannaregiodistrict. Before moving to London, he lived in Thailand,Cambodia and Colombia. Earlier this year there was a similarcase. The body of a young woman, Martusia Ligman, was found inanother channel of the British capital, the Grand Union Canal,which connects London to Birmingham. The story caused a stir inthe capital, especially because the canals surrounding thecentre are popular for weekend outings and family walks. (AGI). .
