(AGI) Los Angeles, March 12 - American director RichardGlatzer, best known for his last film Still Alice, has died atthe age of 63. He died of a motor neuron disease (ALS) after along period of physical decline. He was even unable to attendthe Oscars ceremony in which Julianne Moore was awarded anOscar for Best Actress for her role in Still Alice. Glatzer'shusband as well as co-author of the film, Wash Westmoreland,recalled him as a man who inspired all who had the privilege ofknowing him. "I am devastated. Rich was my soulmate, mycollaborator, my best friend and my life," said Westmoreland."In this dark time, I take some consolation in the fact that hegot to see Still Alice go out into the world. He put his heartand soul into that film, and the fact that it touched so manypeople was a constant joy to him." Before becoming a filmdirector in 2013 with the less acclaimed The Last of Robin Hoodand followed up by Still Alice in 2014, Glatzer taughtscreenwriting in New York and worked as a television producerof shows like America's Next Top Model. "When Richard wasdiagnosed with ALS, Wash asked him what he wanted to do. Did hewant to travel? Did he want to see the world?", Moore recalledfrom the stage of the Dolby Theatre after receiving the Oscar."He said that he wanted to make movies, and that's what hedid." Still Alice, written and directed by Glatzer and WashWestmoreland, is an adaptation of the novel by Americanscientist Lisa Genova. The protagonist is a linguist at theprestigious Columbia University who is diagnosed with an earlyform of Alzheimer's when he reaches the peak of his career.. .
