(AGI) Rome, Dec. 9 - In 2013 the number of Italians who movedabroad rose to 82,000, the highest in ten years. The numbergrew 20.7 percent from 2012, said the latest ISTAT report onthe "International and domestic migration of the residentpopulation". Italians' main destinations when moving abroad in2013 included the United Kingdom (13,000 migrants), Germany(over 11,000), Switzerland (10,000) and France (8,000). Thesecountries account for over half of the outflow. Most of theItalians who left in 2013 were aged between 20 and 45, and over30 percent of them had a degree. The graduates predominantlychose Britain - 3,300. There are far fewer coming home: in 2013only 4,000 returned to Italy from Germany, almost 3,000 fromSwitzerland and 2,000 from the United Kingdom and the USA.Italy has a negative migration balance of 54,000, almost 40percent higher than 2012's 38,000. Also, in 2013 a total of44,000 registered foreign citizens left, 14.2 percent higherthan in 2012. In total, the number of emigrants more thandoubled between 2007 and 2013, rising from 51,000 to 126,000. . .
