Sonic booms heard as jets escort plane to Rome airport
(AGI) Rome, Sept 14 - The Italian Air Force escorted MiddleEast Airlines flight ME214 from Geneva to Beirut to anemergency landing in Fiumicino airport on Sunday. The flightreportedly requested assistance for problems on board, mostlikely for suspicious luggage. Two jets from the base inGrosseto broke the sound barrier at a relatively low altitude,causing sonic booms to echo north of Rome.
