(AGI) Brennero (Bolzano), June 2 - Thousands of migrants havegathered on the Italian-Austrian border hoping to depart forGermany as soon as they receive authorisation to travel."Enough with Eritrea, enough with war, I want to give my familya future," one migrant, 40-year-old Nassor, told AGI. "We wantto go to Germany, to the north, to the north. We hope to leavesoon, my wife is pregnant and we've almost finished the foodthey gave us along our voyage. What do we have in our bags? Some clothes and covers, nothing more". The Brenner Pass, located in the Alps between Italy and Austria, has seenunprecedented levels of migrants waiting for Austria'spermission to cross the border. The migrants spend day afterday on the platform of the Regionalzug train to Innsbruck, dreaming of Germany or perhaps even one of the Scandinaviannations, leaving their home countries of Syria, Eritrea,Senegal, Sudan, Gambia, Mali, or other central African nationsin the past. Germany suspended the Schengen agreement a weekago due to the G7 summit due to take place on June 7 and 8 inBavaria, meaning free movement of persons is now subject topresenting valid identification, which is an arduous task formany migrants. Many have given up on the train journey andmoved towards Milan. An average of 120 migrants reach theBrennero Pass every day on Eurocity trains headed to Munich, but those intending to cross the border are stopped by patrolsof Italian, Austrian, and German police and removed from thecarriage. A number of migrants have also been turned away fromthe border in recent days. The Brennero train station'spersonnel offices are now filled with migrants resting on thefloor, while others consume what remains of the food donated byItalian humanitarian organisations.. .
