Rubens' 'Adoration of the Shepherds' goes on show in Milan

(AGI) Milan, Dec 2 - Pietro Paolo Rubens' "Adoration of theShepherds" is to be displayed in Milan. The altar piece, whichis kept in the Civic Picture Gallery of Fermo, will be shown inthe Sala Alessi at Palazzo Marino, Milan's town hall from Dec3. to Jan. 10. The masterpiece will be shown with the supportof the Intesa Sanpaolo financial group. The masterpiece on show inPalazzo Marino offers the opportunity of comparing the Flemishpainter with Hayez." A retrospective exhibition of the majorpainter of the Italian Rinascimento is being shown at IntesaSanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia, opposite the town hall. Mr Bazolisaid what an important year it had been for the city of Milan.The city was in competition with Rome but he said: "Milan hascontributed to Italy's culture". He also mentioned Expo Milan2015. "Milan has proved to be an extraordinarily thriving city.We can be truly proud of this city." The exhibition has beensponsored by the Ministry of Culture and promoted by theMunicipality and Intesa Sanpaolo, with the support ofRinascente. It has been organised by the City of Fermo andGallerie d'Italia, curated by Anno Lo Bianco. The exhibitionwill continue at Palazzo Reale in autumn next year. Filippo DelCorno, councillor for culture in the Municipality of Milan,emphasised "the profound link with the spirit of Christmas, amilestone in the history of mankind, despite the religion eachone of us believes in". It was painted by Rubens in 1608; anddepicts the Nativity, with the Virgin Mary, Baby Jesus, SaintJoseph and the shepherds.. .
