Renzo Piano designs new 'Shard' for West London

(AGI) London, Oct 20 - In London where building development isproceeding at an incredible pace, Italian superstar architectRenzo Piano could soon complete the final design of anotherskyscraper, this time in the western district of Paddington.After the Shard, the tallest skyscraper in Europe also designedby Piano and opened in 2012 at London Bridge, the SellarProperty Group could be about to build another huge building.According to the London Evening Standard, which revealed thenews of this billion pound project, (1.35 billion euros atcurrent exchange rates), is now just waiting for thegovernment's final authorisation that, if it were to come ontime, would allow the skyscraper to be ready in 2020. The224-metre high building would house flats, offices,restaurants, and a roof garden in its 65 storeys. Paddington isa very busy area, especially due to its railway link toHeathrow Airport and cities such as Bristol, Oxford andCardiff. Yet, as pointed out by the builders and the architect,the area is messy and depressing and could do with new buildingand infrastructure projects to create "a wonderful sense ofplace". The Standard has already dubbed the project the "SkinnyShard", after the 330-metre wonder whose 75 floors havetransformed the entire London Bridge area on the River Thames,in just a few years. The project's real name for now is 31London Street, which is a little anonymous for a building thatpromises to be the fourth highest in the capital. (AGI). .
