(AGI) Vatican City, Oct 12 - Pope Francis has named a newhostel for the homeless "Dono di Misericordia" ("Gift ofMercy"). The hostel, in Via dei Penitenziari, near St. Peter'sSquare, formerly a travel agency, was offered by thecongregation of Jesuits. The Apostolic Almoner funded the workto convert it into a hostel. It will be able to provide anight's accommodation and breakfast to 34 people. They will begiven dinner in another Vatican dormitory called "Dono diMaria" ("Gift of Mary"), which was donated by Pope John Paul IIin 1988. The Argentinian pope has followed in the steps of thePolish pope and entrusted the management of the second hostelto the Sisters of Mother Teresa, who are also in charge of thefirst. The same religious congregation manages similarfacilities in Rome's Via Rattazzi, near Termini Station, and inthe San Gregorio and Celio districts. All the hostelsare regulated by ad hoc hospitality management rules:applicants must have an interview with the Sisters before theyare accepted (in the Vatican, the interview is at the "Gift ofMary" hostel); they can stay a maximum of 30 days; must complywith opening hours, from 6 to 7 p.m., when lights are switchedoff at night; a wake-up call at 6:15 a.m.; personal cleanlinessrules; making beds and keeping their closet in order before thehostel closes at 8 a.m. for housekeeping.
