Oxfam Day. On October 15, Expo Milano 2015 Dedicates the Entire Day to the Essential Work Carried Out By Oxfam, Which Has Been Fighting Hunger For Years
On Thursday, October 15, the Universal Exposition of Milan is dedicating an entire day to the work of Oxfam, a civil society participant in the Universal Exposition that has been working for years on the campaign #sfidolafame [I challenge hunger].
Flash mob "Table For Everyone: We challenge hunger" in front of Pavilion Zero
On the eve of World Food Day, celebrated on October 16, in the space in front of Pavilion Zero, a flash mob will assemble at noon for Table For Everyone: We challenge hunger promoted by Oxfam to ask Premier Matteo Renzi and other world leaders for a concrete commitment to assure sufficient food for the entire population on the planet. At the sound of a bell, the Oxfam volunteers will sit at a table set on the ground. They will have spoons in hand and an empty plate to make visitors aware that there is not enough food for everybody, even though plenty is produced. Following this, there will be participation by Roberto Barbieri (General Director of Oxfam Italy) and Birtukan Tegegn (2013 Female Food Hero in Ethiopia).
Photograph exhibits, meetings, cooking shows and concerts
At 13:00 in the area between the Bio Mediterraneum Cluster and the Arid Zones Cluster, the Oxfam projects in Albania and Palestine will be presented along with staff working in the field, and then at 14:00 on the Bio Mediterraneum Cluster stage, the show "Portraits of Albania," a project between Oxfam and photographer Marco Marucci, will be unveiled. At 14:30 at the KIP Pavilion, a cooking experience will be presented with television anchor Tessa Gelisio where visitors can learn to cook without waste, featuring local products. From 18:00 to 20:00 at the Ferrero space in front of Cascina Triulza, a street event "Create a better climate" will be held to discuss "What can governments do to fight climate change?" This day for awareness will conclude at 19:15 with a big concert on the stage of the Belgium Pavilion. The Ambrosiano Vocal Ensemble (NGO) is expected to sing Songs for the Earth.
Oxfam's focus on female empowerment is very timely
Oxfam is participating in the Universal Exposition of Milan to sensitize visitors to the subject of access to food, climate change and safeguarding the planet. In particular, the global projects include "Grow - Food, Life, Planet," and the global campaign Cultivate begun in 2011 to create a system that makes food, life and the planet fairer and more sustainable, investing in small farmers in the southern hemisphere and giving them the land and resources they need to provide for themselves and their families. The initiative performed awareness work that involved many citizens through small daily actions to change their lifestyles and food consumption, with the objective of influencing the world around us. The attention that Oxfam is paying to female empowerment and women's role as the "feeders" of the planet is very timely and important, as demonstrated by the Italian campaign "With women to fight hunger," which created synergies with the "WE Women for Expo" project.
