(AGI) Rome, June 16 - Italy's National Organisation of OilTasters (ONAOO) is holding two events in the Ligurian sectionof the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2015, during a day devoted toImperia, the capital of Italian food. Olive oil will providethe focus for a series of meetings on the region and itsquality, being synonymous with health and good living and thusdovetailing perfectly with the overarching theme of Expo Milano2015, 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life'. ONAOO, the firsttasting school in the world, is part of the Italian Union ofChambers of Commerce. Its mission is to act as ambassador forthe 'green gold' and it puts the spotlight on education atglobal level. Italy has the highest number of cultivars in theworld and innumerable organoleptic profiles, and ONAOO iscommitted to defending quality by disseminating knowledge. Theorganisation was started in Imperia in 1983 by the localchamber of commerce and a group of experienced tasters in orderto disseminate and promote the culture of tasting, respondingto the need for scientific training and research covering allproducts made with olive oil, and taking an active part ineducation, qualitative development, promotion anddissemination. In order to underpin the olive oil productionchain and bolster the development of the sector atinternational level, the Tasting School organises courses inboth theory and practice, at its headquarters in Imperia, online and abroad. These have already been held in the U.S.,South Africa, Japan, Taiwan, Turkey, Tunisia and Morocco.Foreign countries are a major outlet for education, not justbecause there are many other countries that equal and exceedItaly in terms of the quantity of olive oil produced, but alsobecause of the increasing global interest in olive oil.
