(AGI) Rome, June 28 - "No to EU diktats on cheese and powederedmilk. We continue to uphold Italian quality," said ItalianAgriculture Minister, Maurizio Martina, in a tweet on Sunday. Mr Martina also released a communique': "We will defend tothe last the quality of the Italian dairy products and thetransparency of the information to be given to consumers. Wewill repeat to the European Commission the need for a new morethorough provision on milk labels which might better meet theneeds of our producers, especially after the end of the quotasystem. We are not ready to step back on these principles. Itis important to repeat that our great cheeses with a protecteddenomination of origin are not involved in this matter as theywill never be able to use raw materials different from thoseenvisaged in the protocols. In the meantime, we will continueto debate the issue with farming organisations and their supplychain, as well as with the other ministries involved in orderto avoid sanctions by the European Union."
