(AGI) London, Dec 12 - The conclusion of Italy's presidency ofthe European Union will be celebrated on Friday evening at theItalian embassy in London, headed by Pasquale Terracciano, witha concert by musicians from Milan's renowned Scala theatre. Theevent in Grosvenor Square will be attended by the UK's Ministerfor Europe, David Lidington, as well as MPs, members of thediplomatic corps, and representatives from the press, the City,and British society. The embassy stated that "during thesedifficult times of economic crisis affecting the continent, theconcluding concert aims to underscore the deep cultural rootsthat link Italy and the UK, in the name of a common and fullyEuropean background". On top of a vast programme of culturalevents, over the last six months Italy's diplomatic corps inLondon has organised numerous seminars, debates, andconferences on common themes for the UK and Italy, such asgrowth policies, combating unemployment, crystallising thesingle market, and concluding free trade agreements. Ingreeting the British government, ambassador Terracciano willalso make a speech on the UK's "essential role" in Europe, inthe light of heightening discussions on its possible exit fromthe EU.
