(AGI) Rome, June 20 - A 1,595 metre-long pizza was churned outat the Milan Expo on Saturday, officially setting a new worldrecord, reported the Italian farmers' association, Coldiretti.The association quoted the Guinness World Records judge,Lorenzo Veltri, who proclaimed Expo the new record-holder. Thissuccessful initiative was launched to support the inclusion ofpizza on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Theprevious record of 1,150 metres held by Spain was beat exactlyon the 126th anniversary of the creation of the "PizzaMargherita", thanks to a staff of 200-people, including 60pizza chefs. The ingredients used included two tons of tomatosauce, 1.5 tons of mozzarella cheese, 300 litres of extravirgin olive oil and two tons of flour. It will take 18 hoursto distribute approximately 35,000 free slices of PizzaMargherita along the Expo's Decumanus axis. The pizza chefssimultaneously rolled out the dough on 2,000 baking trays, puton the topping and baked it in five specially designed mobileovens. "It is an important result which goes to support anegotiation involving the representatives of 163 States aroundthe world who are called on to pass a final decision after thefirst green light given at national level last March 26,"stated the president of Coldiretti, Roberto Moncalvo,underscoring that "thousands of foreign visitors signed thepetition supporting Italy's candidacy in Coldiretti'spavilion."
