(AGI) Milan, June 20 - Cardinal Angelo Scola, the archbishop ofMilan, visited the refugee camp in Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdisan, onSaturday, where over 125,000 Christians are fleeing from theirvillages under siege by ISIS. "International politics must takedecisions and the West must declare its will to stop ISIS,otherwise people will lose hope; I don't think they can resistmuch longer," he said. He warned: "There is the danger that theyounger ones will escape abroad. It would be a serious loss forthe country, for the Christian community and for the wholeChurch." Cardinal Scola continued: "For the time being, I don'tsee a future for them, seeing the condition they're in. TheWest must intervene quickly to help them. Otherwise they willgo look for it by knocking on the doors of Europe." In play arethese people's fundamental human rights, said the archbishop."The States must guarantee the respect of everybody'sfundamental human rights. These rights come before the religionto which each one belongs. Citizenship must be recognised assuch, as the basis for an effective equality. KurdishChristians don't have the same rights as other Muslim citizens, not even in theory. The Churches must commit to do more; I toowant to do more," he concluded. . .
