(AGI) Maputo, Oct 14 - Malaria deaths fell in Mozambique,although more than four million people still contracted thedisease between January and August this year, reported the OPais newspaper. The figure of 4.272 million contracting malariawas 1.8 percent down on the same period last year from 4.354million, said the Ministry of Health. Malaria remains the maincause of death in Mozambique despite a 28 percent fall indeaths, from 2.497 million last year to 1.809 million thisyear. There was a 15 percent rise in the provinces of Nampulaand Zambezi. Malaria is endemic in the country and spikesduring and after the rainy season. There are fears the figuresmay rise soon as the rainy season begins this month. (AGI). .
