Kormakur's 'Everest' to open Venice Film Festival

The Festival director is Alberto Barbera, within theVenice Biennale chaired by Paolo Baratta. The climbers' courage istested when they face powerful forces of nature which turntheir obsession into a struggle for survival. 'Everest' is aWorking Title Films production and features Jason Clarke, JoshBrolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, SamWorthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal.It is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Baltasar Kormakur,Nicky Kentish Barnes, Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson.Presented by Universal Pictures and Walden Media incollaboration with Cross Creek Pictures, it has been adaptedfor movie screens by William Nicholson ('Gladiator') and Oscarwinner Simon Beaufoy ('Slumdog Millionaire'). The film was shotin Nepal, on the slopes of Everest, in the Italian Alps (ValSenales, Trentino-Alto Adige), in Rome's Cinecitta studios andin the UK's Pinewood Studios. Universal will distribute thefilm across the world. In the U.S. 'Everest' will bedistributed from Sept. 18 on IMAX 3D screens and inpremium-large format 3D, then from Sept. 25 on all screens,including 2D. Italian release has been scheduled for Sept. 24. .
