Italy's new Senate composition gets go-ahead

(AGI) Rome, July 10 - Italy's Constitutional Affairs Committeehas given the go-ahead to the new composition of the Senate,entailing modifications to Article 57 of the Constitution. TheSenate of the Republic will be composed of 95 senators,representing the regional bodies, and 5 senators nominated bythe President of the Republic. The regional councils andcouncils of the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano willuse the proportional method for electing senators from amongtheir own ranks, and on a one-for-one basis, among those of themayors of the respective municipalities. . .
