(AGI) Rho (Milan), June 2 - Italy's annual Republic Day wascheerfully celebrated at the Expo in Milan with an assortmentof events that went on from morning till evening. Thefestivities on June 2 began at 11 a.m. with a performance by ayoung people's choir on the Cardo, one of the Expo's two mainavenues, followed by a parade of over 600 people representingthe Italian businesses, bodies, and organisations that tookpart in the Expo's creation. Though dressed in their respectiveuniforms and suits, they all donned some form of the Italianflag, the unifying symbol of the day, from the flag itself toshoes, hats, and umbrellas in one of its three colours. Theparade crossed the entire site with a marching band, withItaly's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies,Maurizio Martina, heading the procession alongside ExpoCommissioner Giuseppe Sala and Expo SpA President Diana Bracco.Beginning at 5 p.m., it travelled down the Decumano throughwaytill the intersection with the Cardo, the Expo's central hubnamed Piazza Italia, where flag twirlers put on a show and theparaders spelled the word "Italia". The celebrations wereconcluded at the Lake Arena, where a special light show was puton at the Albero della Vita (Tree of Life) to the tune ofGiuseppe Verdi's La Traviata. "I would like to repeat whatColdiretti stated yesterday: that 7 out of 10 Italians want tovisit the Expo," Sala commented. "Few things have so muchconsensus in Italy, and this drives us to continue our work". . .
