They are starting to appreciate pasta as77percent of Americans have it at least once a week, and 33percent of them eats it three times a week. Some celebritiesopenly declared they are in favour of a pasta-based meal as itis healthy, environmentally friendly and promotes awell-balanced nutrition. Lately, it was Madonna who, during herbrief participation in Fabio Fazio's TV programme, said andtweeted she had three pasta servings when In Italy. Almost atthe same time, Michelle Obama was in a Time magazine article onthe anti-obesity campaign, with a picture over a dish of pasta."We are pleased to note that not all Americans have acarbophobia," said Riccardo Felicetti, president of the Italianpasta makers (AIDEPI). The AIDEPI association explained thatpasta can be the key to teach Americans to eat correctly anddiscover the Mediterranean Diet. Considering that the averageprice of a 1-lb pack of pasta costs 1.45 dollars, today eatinga dish of pasta with tomato sauce at home in the United Statescosts only 83 cents. This means that an American family of fourcan eat a pasta-based meal spending what they would pay for aBig Mac, which today costs 3.54 dollars. Hollywood stars seemto appreciate Italian pasta so much that they hire the bestItalian chefs to cook for them for special meals in theirhomes. Robert De Niro, Scarlett Johansson, Quentin Tarantinoand Halle Berry actually hire a 'personal chef' who, for only10,000 Euro, will create the magic of a successfulItalian-style dinner. Daniel Craig, now in Rome to shoot thenew 007 film, was seen with actors Monica Bellucci andChristopher Waltz at the 'Il Bolognese' restaurant. Americancelebs are not the only ones to love pasta, however. A researchconducted by the National Pasta Association, pasta is becomingthe favourite comfort food in the nation of fast-food, beating( 56 percent against 44 percent) even chocolate in the rankingof the food one would never give up.. .
