(AGI) Rome, June 1 - Monthly gas consumption in Italy droppedslightly to a 13-year low in May after four consecutive rises.It was affected by sharper falls in civil and industrialconsumption, following a colder winter than 2014, more thancompensating for the rebound in thermoelectric power. Snam ReteGas data processed by the Staffetta Quotidiana energy watchdogshowed that Italy consumed 3,640.8 million cubic metres of gasin May, 0.4 percent less than 2014 and 1.4 percent less than2013. Civil sector consumption fell 7 percent to 1,179 millioncubic metres, 8.3 percent less than 2013. Industrialconsumption fell 3.2 percent to 1,055.8 million cubic metres,5.7 percent less than 2013. Power stations performed betterthan in April, with a 9.4 percent increase to 1,293.9 millioncubic metres, 9.9 percent more than 2013. Historically, acomparison between the last 13 months of May in index numbers(May 2003=100), 2015 consumption was lowest with 79, followedby 2014 (79.3) and 2013 (80.2). Overall consumption during thefirst five months of 2015 were 8.8 percent up on the sameperiod in 2014, at 31,696.9 million cubic metres. It fell 8.6percent in 2013. Civil consumption rose 11.7 percent to17,575.5 million cubic metres, 10.1 percent down on 2013;thermoelectric consumption rose 9.9 percent to 7,661.2 millioncubic metres, 9.9 percent down; and industrial consumption fell0.9 percent to 5,597.58 million cubic metres, 2.1 percent down.With regard to supply, imports rose slightly, making for aslight fall in net stock injections. Imports rose 0.5 percentto 5,192.5 million cubic metres, up 8 percent on 2013. Domesticproduction fell by a further 1.2 percent to 583.7, 6.2 percentdown on 2013, while net stock injections rose 1.4 percent to2,135.4 million cubic metres, 23.1 percent up on 2013. Importsof Russian gas to Tarvisio rose 5.8 percent to 2,690.1 millioncubic metres, making Russia Italy's prime source of gas. Gasfrom Algeria fell significantly by 18.2 percent to 686.5million cubic metres, while flows from Libya to Gela fell morethan 43 percent to 678.3 million cubic metres. Transitgas flowsfrom Northern Europe to Passo Gries fell 21.2 percent to 634.2million cubic metres. Rovigo supplies of liquefied natural gas(LNG) fell 1 percent to 502.4 million cubic metres, whilePanigaglia and Leghorn remained unchanged. Overall, during theperiod from January to May 2015, imports rose 1 percent to24,685.5 million cubic metres, down 5.5 percent on 2013;production fell 5.9 percent to 2,709.7 million cubic metres,down 12.7 percent on 2013, while net emissions during the firsttwo months of the injection season were 3,370.1 million cubicmetres, 1.9 percent higher than in 2014 and 63.1 percent thanin 2013.
