(AGI) Abu Dhabi, March 26 - Italian conductor Riccardo Mutireceived a standing ovation after Wednesday's concert in AbuDhabi, where he directed a Beethoven concert by violinistAnne-Sophie Mutter and the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra.This was the maestro's first concert in the Persian Gulf, andhe received the Abu Dhabi Festival Award. The festival has itsroots in the Emirati capital and has become a culturalattraction for the entire region over the years, this being the12th edition. On the site of the festival, the culturaldistrict of Saadiyat Island will rise in 2016, with the LouvreAbu Dhabi museum, the Abu Dhabi Guggenheim, the Zayed NationalMuseum designed by Norman Foster and the futuristic PerformingArts Center by Saha Hadid. "In today's world - complex anddiverse as never before - it is important to affirm thecapacity of Abu Dhabi and the Arab world to generate new ideasand to unleash creativity," said Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, founderand artistic director of the Festival, which is organised bythe Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation. The money raised by thefestival in 2015 will be donated to the United Nations HighCommissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).. .
