(AGI) Rome, Sept. 23 - The number of Instagram users has passed400 million, exactly five years after the photo sharing servicewas launched. In a blog post announcing the milestone, thecompany said: "We are thrilled to announce that the Instagramcommunity has grown to more than 400 million strong. Whilemilestones like this are important, what really excites us isthe way that visual communication makes the world feel a littlebit smaller to every one of us." The Instagram community hasevolved over time to become more and more global. Currently,more than 75 percent of its members live outside the UnitedStates. Of the 100 million that recently joined thenetwork, more than half live in Europe and Asia. The companyalso reported more than 80 million Instagrams to date, whichaltogether enjoyed 3.5 billion daily likes. In total, more than40 billion photos have been shared on its site. The countrieswith the largest number of new members were Brazil, Japan andIndonesia. Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing,video-sharing and social networking service that enables itsusers to take pictures and videos, and share them on a varietyof social networking platforms. The broad collection includesthe first image of the surface of Pluto, Champions Leaguecelebrations and even a ghost town in the desert of Namibia.And those are just examples of the more than 80 million photosshared on Instagram every day.
