Halliburton bids to purchase competitor Baker Hughes

(AGI) Houston, Nov 14 - Halliburton has made a bid to takeovercompetitor Baker Hughes. This would merge two of the majorplayers in oil and gas services and technologies into theworld's leading oilfield services group. The negotiations wereconfirmed by Baker Hughes after the Wall Street Journal leakedthe news, but Halliburton did not comment.
