(AGI) Woking, Mar 23 - Star F1 driver Fernando Alonso will beback behind the wheel at the Malaysia Grand Prix, McLaren-Hondahas confirmed. After rumours in the Spanish press on Sunday, the team announced on its website: "Subject to a successfulfinal FIA medical assessment this Thursday March 26 at theSepang International Circuit, Fernando Alonso will return tothe cockpit of his MP4-30 car for this weekend's MalaysianGrand Prix. Since his Barcelona testing accident, Fernando hasfollowed a rigorous, specialised training programme, designedand closely monitored by leading sports scientists, to ensurehis safe and timely return to racing. At the McLaren TechnologyCentre last week, Fernando met with his engineers and drove thesimulator, to bring him up to date with the latest developmentson the MP4-30 chassis and power unit. As part of that processhe spent time with senior engineers, discussing the accidentand reviewing the comprehensive data and analysis, all of whichhas been shared with the FIA. While there was nothing evidentin the extensive car telemetry data, nor anything abnormal inthe subsequent reconstructions and laboratory tests, Fernandorecalls a sense of 'heavy' steering prior to the accident.Consequently, the team has fitted an additional sensor to thecar, to increase our data capture. Fernando is very muchlooking forward to getting back into the car and making asubstantial contribution to our collective efforts with Honda,to accelerate the required improvement to our on-trackperformance." . .
