(AGI) Rome, Sept 16 - European Commissioner for Energy andClimate Action, Miguel Arias Canete, met Claudio Descalzi, CEOof Italian oil and gas giant Eni, in Rome on Wednesday. The two discussed the state of play in negotiations precedingthe COP21 climate summit in Paris this December. Mr Descalzireiterated the request for a global carbon pricing mechanism,especially regarding the increased use of coal in powergeneration, in order to ensure a level playing field betweenthe EU and other major industrial powers. They alsostressed that Eni's giant Egyptian offshore gas discovery,along with other important discoveries

(AGI) Rome, Sept 16 - European Commissioner for Energy andClimate Action, Miguel Arias Canete, met Claudio Descalzi, CEOof Italian oil and gas giant Eni, in Rome on Wednesday. The two discussed the state of play in negotiations precedingthe COP21 climate summit in Paris this December. Mr Descalzireiterated the request for a global carbon pricing mechanism,especially regarding the increased use of coal in powergeneration, in order to ensure a level playing field betweenthe EU and other major industrial powers. They alsostressed that Eni's giant Egyptian offshore gas discovery,along with other important discoveries made in recent yearsaround Israel and Cyprus, will allow the East Mediterranean tobolster European energy security, enhance the liquidity of thegas market and help gas compete against coal. In this context,Mr Descalzi and Mr Canete called for full integration of theEuropean gas market in order to make best use of alternativefuture supplies. The Eni CEO finally welcomed the resolve withwhich the Commissioner is addressing this issue. (AGI) . .
