European Commission and Turkey strike a deal over migrants

(AGI) Berlin, Oct 4 - The European Commission and Turkey havereached an agreement to curb the migratory flows into Europe,reported the German Frankfurter Allgemeine's Sunday edition.Turkey will be held responsible of better protecting itsborders with Greece, which are now crossed by thousands ofrefugees, the paper said. Most of the refugees would beconveyed into six new camps, to be partly funded by Brussels,capable of hosting a total of two million people. The EuropeanUnion would take charge of half a million of these, bypassingthe human traffickers. The agreement also provides for theTurkish and Greek coast guards to collaborate in a jointpatrolling effort under the supervision and coordination ofFrontex, the European border managing agency. The content ofthe agreement will be announced on Monday during a pressconference of the European Commission, whose presidentJean-Claude Juncker, is soon due to meet with Turkishpresident, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
