(AGI) Rome, March 16 - More gas been discovered by Italian oiland gas company ENI in an area off the Indonesian coast.Exploratory drilling in the Merakes 1 gas field, in the EastSepinhhgan block, showed a potential of more than 56 billioncubic metres of gas. Estimates were 36 billion cubic metres.ENI has 85 percent of operations in the block. The Merakes 1well was drilled in October to 1,372 metres using a hydrocarboncolumn of 60 metres of top quality sand. ENI will carry out anappraisal to optimise the development with the neighbouringfield of Jangkrik, 35 kilometres away, also run by ENI. TheEast Sepinngan field is off the East Kalimantan coast ofBorneo, 170 kilometres south of the Bointang natural gasliquefaction centre. ENI has been working in Indonesia since2001 and has a large amount of exploration, production anddevelopment assets in the country which help the growth of thecompany. ENI produces about 17,000 barrels of oil equivalent aday in Indonesia. (AGI). .
